What Should I do If I’m Involved in a Bus Accident?
After you have been in a bus accident, the first thing you need to do is make sure you have no serious injuries and are able to get away from oncoming traffic or other hazards in the road. Next, you should check on other passengers and drivers involved in the accident to determine if they have any major injuries. Once you know that everyone if safe, call 911 and request medical assistance for any injured parties.
Next, get the information of the bus driver and the company that employs them. When you gather information from the bus driver ask for:
- The driver’s full name
- Phone number
- License plate number
- Insurance provider
You should also take pictures of the accident scene so that you have proof of the damages you incurred from the collision. Get clear pictures of any vehicles that sustained damage and anything else that might be relevant to your accident claim. Make sure you also get the names and phone numbers of anyone who witnessed the accident.
Bus accident claims can be very complicated due to all of the different parties that are involved. From the bus company and vehicle manufacturer, to the driver and other employees who service the vehicle, there are many factors that will influence the outcome of the claim. Because bus accident cases are so complex, you should consult with an accident attorney to ensure that everything is accounted for.
